The Evolution of Signage

The function of signage is to convey information to an audience so that decision making can be done by the receiver. Since signage is considered a marketing strategy, signage can actually help persuade an individual to buy or purchase a product or service   The invention of sign or also known as the light box has been a revolutionary creation in the business industry, but we can not really pinpoint the actual date where signage was made. This is due to the reason that signage has already been a big part of us since the back from the olden times.

During the 19th century, there was the start of specialised signages that developed for certain places in their arrangements of lights at night like for coffeehouses. In the 20th century, signage had already become a norm and a part of everyday life. The creation of the lightbox sign and neon light sign in the 1920s, made signage come up to life. By now it has set the standard for today signage.
